About Platelets (PL)

These products can be isolated either from a unit of CPD Whole Blood or collected with Apheresis cell separation device using Acid-Citrate Dextrose (ACD) anticoagulant.

Platelet (PL) Product Disclosure

• Whole Blood Derived units contain residual amounts of WBC. They may be steriley pooled or used as individual units. A full unit of Platelets contains at least 5.5 X 10^10 platelets.

• Aphereis collected Platelet products have been WBC reduced through special collection processes. These units can be produced having 1.5 x 10^11 or 3.0 x 10^11 yields.

• All Platelet products can be exposed to Gamma Radiation Source to inhibit WBC functions.

• Can be collected from donors that are serologically negative for CMV antibody.

• Can be collected from donors with the absence or presence of specific HLA/Platelet antigen groups.
